Nothing says Christmas like these candy cane cookies. Not only are they cute and fun to make, but they taste delicious. They are super fun to make, especially if you have a child or grandchild help you make them. It just isn't Christmas time without a plate of these tasty treats. Recipe is my own.

Ingredients For candy cane cookies-annette's

  • 1/2 c
    butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    powder sugar
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    almond extract
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    red food coloring drops
  • 1/2 c
    crushed peppermint candy
  • 1/2 c
    sugar

How To Make candy cane cookies-annette's

  • 1
    Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix butter, shortening, powder sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla.

    Blend in flour and salt.

    Divide dough in half; blend food color into one half.
  • 4
    Shape 1 tsp. dough from each half into 4 inch ropes. Place ropes side by side; press together lightly and twist. Complete cookies one at a time.

    Place on ungreased baking sheet. Curve top down to form handle of candy cane.

    Bake 9 minutes or until set and very light brown. Mix candy and granulated sugar. Immediately sprinkle cookies with candy mixture; remove from baking sheet to cooling rack. Enjoy!
