butter, unsalted
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 large
3/4 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
kosher salt
1/2 tsp
pure vanilla extract
1/2 c
walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped

How to Make Butterscotch Brownies from Grandma's Recipe Box


  • 1Preheat oven to 350-degrees.
  • 2Melt butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until well blended; cool.
  • 3Stir in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter and sugar and blend in.
  • 4Mix in vanilla and nuts. Spread into a well-greased square pan (8"x8').
  • 5Bake 25 minutes. Do not overbake! Cut into bars while still warm.
