Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter, unsalted
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped

Step 1Preheat oven to 350-degrees.

Step 2Melt butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until well blended; cool.

Step 3Stir in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter and sugar and blend in.

Step 4Mix in vanilla and nuts. Spread into a well-greased square pan (8"x8').

Step 5Bake 25 minutes. Do not overbake! Cut into bars while still warm.
