The first cookie I ever baked with my grandma. What memories. I just wish that we were able to cook together when I was grown. So much I could have learned from her.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, unsalted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, coarsely chopped

How To Make butterscotch brownies from grandma's recipe box

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350-degrees.
  • Step 2
    Melt butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until well blended; cool.
  • Step 3
    Stir in egg. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter and sugar and blend in.
  • Step 4
    Mix in vanilla and nuts. Spread into a well-greased square pan (8"x8').
  • Step 5
    Bake 25 minutes. Do not overbake! Cut into bars while still warm.
