Ingredients
- SPICY COOKIE BARS:
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 large egg, slightly beaten
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- AFTER BAKING BARS SPRINKLE TOP WITH:
- 2-3 tablespoons powdered sugar

Step 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9 by 13 inch pan and set aside. In a saucepan bring the water and raisins to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Allow to col to lukewarm.

Step 2Meanwhile mix shortening, egg, and sugar together. Set aside. In another bowl stir together all remaining unused ingredients except nuts and powdered sugar. Stir in raisins and shortening mixture. Finally stir in nuts.

Step 3Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 15-18 minutes. When cool dust with powdered sugar and cut into 24 bars.
