I got this recipe on the back of the butter flavored Crisco can. I have tweaked it just a bit; but it is delicious. The raisins are of course optional, and if you would rather, you may want to use chocolate, butterscotch, cinnamon or peanut butter chips. Alwsys a hit with my family, and requested often from others as well.

How to Make Best Ever Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Cream together the shortening with the sugar. Add vanilla extract, milk and egg. Beat at medium speed until combined. Do not overbeat.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift or whisk very well the next 4 dry ingredients. Mix into the creamed mixture, then, stir in the oats, raisins, nuts, etc.
  4. Place 1” -2” balls, about 2” apart on un-greased cookie sheets. Flatten gently to about 3/8 of an inch with palm of your hand.
  5. Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes (depending on size). Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheets before removing to cooking racks to cool completely. Yield: 3 dozen.
  6. NOTE: We like to make 'em big; but if you would prefer, this recipe can be halved very easily, and works just fine. I use air cushioned cookie sheets.
