basic spritz cookies

we love this recipe, but we make a change from this original one: we use either lemon or peppermint for the flavor instead of almond. it makes it a cleaner and lighter flavor. almond is great with coffee, but little ones tend to like the fruity and spicy tastes in my experience!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

How To Make basic spritz cookies

  • Step 1
    preheat oven to 350-375 (depending on how hot it runs)
  • Step 2
    cream butter and sugar. add in egg, milk, vanilla and almond and beat well
  • Step 3
    in separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder. stir well... then add in increments to the butter/sugar mixture.
  • Step 4
    place dough in cookie press,, and press cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet. top with colored sugar and sprinkles as desired.... it makes them pretty!
  • Step 5
    cook for 10-12 minutes until lightly browned around the edges. remove from sheet and cool on rack.
