anise cookies

These are one of my grandsons favorite cookies. I had asked a friend to send me their Anise Cookie recipe several years ago and the format didn't come through on my computer properly, so I took what came through and made it into my own recipe. Mine came out much lighter, and everyone loved them. So I stuck with my version. Here it is....

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 bottle anise extract
- 4 - eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- FROSTING
- 1 pound confectioner's sugar
- 1/2 bottle anise exract
- - warm water
How To Make anise cookies

Step 1Preheat oven to 350°. Cream together shortening, butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beat at medium after each addition. Add 1/2 bottle of Anise extract, beat until mixed. Add flour, salt and baking powder, beat at medium until mixed. Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes. Let cool and frost with Anise Frosting below.

Step 2Frosting: Mix together Anise extract and sugar. Add warm water a little at a time until icing is correct consistency for spreading

Step 3You can add a drop of food coloring to frosting to make them any color you want.
