Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 36 - whole almonds
How To Make almond cookies
-
Step 1Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar - mix well.
-
Step 2Beat the butter and shortening in a large mixer bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Beat in the sugar and egg yolk - mix well.
-
Step 3With the mixer on low speed, add the flour mixture. Beat until a soft dough is formed. Shape rounded teaspoons of dough into balls and place on a baking sheet. If the dough is too soft to handle, chill for 30 minutes. Place an almond in the center of each cookie.
-
Step 4Bake 11-14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes. Remove and cool on wire cooling racks.
