Ingredients

  • 1 c
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1
    whole egg or egg white
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c
    oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked
  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    nuts, finely chopped
  • 1/3 c
    jelly or preserves

How to Make A Santa Thumprint

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl until fluffy.
  3. Blend in egg and vanilla.
  4. Add combined oats and flour; mix well.
  5. Shape into 1" balls; roll in chopped nuts and place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Make indentation in center of each ball with thumb.
  7. Fill each thumbprint with about 1/4 teaspoon jelly.
  8. Bake 12-15 minutes or until light golden brown.
  9. Cool completely on wire rack and store loosely covered--makes about 3 dozen cookies.
