Pretty Party Mousse

vanilla wafers
dried figs, stewed, cut up
1 c
evaporated milk or light cream
1 c
1/2 c
1/2 tsp
instant coffee powder
1 tsp
1 tsp
1 c
walnuts, toasted, chopped
2 c
heavy cream, whipped
1 qt
chocolate ice cream
whole figs for garnishing


1Crumble vanilla wafers and cut the figs into saucepan.
2Add evaporated milk or cream, sugar and instant coffee.
3Place over medium heat and stir constantly until cookies and figs are blended with the liquid.
4Chill until cold.
5Add cinnamon and vanilla.
6Meanwhile, mince walnuts and place in 350 oven for about 10 minutes or until crisp.
7Whip cream, reserving one-fourth for garnishing.
8Place ice cream in mixing bowl, stir until somewhat softened.
9Quickly add fig cookie mixture, nuts and whipped cream.
10Combine thoroughly, working fast.
11Before ice cream melts turn it into a mold and place in freezing compartment of refrigerator.
12Freeze fast until firm.
13To serve, dip quickly into just-warm water, turn out on chilled serving plate, garnish with whipped cream that has been sweetened and flavored with vanilla.
14Surround with whole figs.
