kim's chocolate joy icing
I got this recipe when I started cake decorating back in 1977 and have had many compliments that it is the best icing ever. It's good because the lemon juice cuts down the sweetness and gives it the unique lemony flavor.

Makes enough to ice a regular 8-10 inch double layer cake
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1 - large egg
- 3-4 cups powdered sugar
- 5 tablespoons cocoa, unsweetened
- 5 tablespoons hot water
- 3 teaspoons lemon juice, fresh
How To Make kim's chocolate joy icing
-
Step 1Cream butter and shortening until smooth
-
Step 2Add egg, lemon juice, hot water. Mix well.
-
Step 3SLOWLY add the powdered sugar and cocoa a little at a time until mixed. If a stiffer icing is needed for your cake...Keep adding powdered sugar until you have your right consistancy. This icing is NOT good for making frosting flowers. It does make nice borders tho
