Good homemade frostings can be very hard to find, many are too sweet, too rich, or complicated to put together. I enjoy the flavors in this fabulous chocolate frosting, another essential recipe at my house.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 3/4 cup milk, whole
  • 1/2 cup butter, unsalted
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How To Make homemade chocolate frosting

  • Step 1
    In a double boiler add chocolate chips, milk, and butter.
  • Step 2
    Stir over medium heat until smooth. Add to mixer and beat in the powdered sugar, and vanilla.
  • Step 3
    Blend until smooth, if very lumpy run it through a strainer. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, and then beat for another 1-2 minutes before using.
