I am always looking for a way to use bananas that are getting over ripe. This bread is a quick way to use the bananas and have some chocolate as well. My husband loves the walnuts, but they are optional.

Ingredients For chocolate chip banana bread

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    (about 3 small) mashed ripe bananas
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 c
    mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts (optional)

How To Make chocolate chip banana bread

    Grease bottom only of 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Combine all ingredients except chocolate chips and walnuts in large mixer bowl; blend well on medium speed. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.

    Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 350 for 60-70 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack.
