How to Make Chocolate Bars (microwave version)

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, powdered sugar and orange or lemon peel in a bowl.
  2. Add butter. Blend with hands until mixture resembles cornmeal. You may do this in a food processor - process until mixture forms a soft ball.
  3. Press mixture evenly over bottom of a microsafe baking dish. Place dish on a microsafe meat rack or on a microsafe platter.
  4. Microwave for 4 minutes at HIGH power. Remove from microwave oven.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips all over hot crust. As chocolate melts, spread evenly over pastry.
  6. Combine all remaining ingredients in a bowl. Mix thoroughly. Pour mixture over chocolate layer.
  7. Microwave for about 8 minutes at MEDIUM HIGH power, turning dish once if your microwave is not a rotating one.
  8. Let cake stand for a few minutes. Cool in pan. Dust with powdered sugar. Cut into bars or thin wedges depending on dish used.
