Chewy Brown Sugar Cookies

I wanted to bake tonight. Cookies sounded like a great idea. We were out of chocolate chips, and I didn't want your average sugar cookie. So - these sweet, soft & chewy cookies were created! They were a big hit with the hubby & kids.

  • 3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 10 Tbsp
    butter, softened
  • 2/3 c
  • 1 c
    white sugar
  • 1 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 2
  • 1 Tbsp
  • ·
    extra white sugar for dusting

How to Make Chewy Brown Sugar Cookies


  1. Cream together sugars, eggs, butter, shortening, and vanilla. Be careful to not over mix.
  2. Mix together flour and baking soda. Stir in to your sugar mixture.
  3. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Take golf-ball size portions of dough, and shape into about 4" round circles. The dough will hold it's shape for the most part. It will spread a bit while baking.
  5. Place on to an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 6 to 7 minutes for chewy cookies.
  6. Remove your cookies from the oven. Sprinkle a dusting of white sugar to the top of your cookies. Leave on the pan until just cooled.
