These make a lovely addition to a candy tray at Christmas, and are great to give as gifts during the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups vanilla wafers
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup light karo syrup
  • 1/3 cup whiskey
  • 1 cup very finely chopped walnuts
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon shortening

How To Make whiskey bon bons

  • Step 1
Roll out vanilla wafers in a zip loc or heavy plastic bag, until wafers are fine and smooth.
  • Step 2
Combine wafer crumbs with the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, karo syrup, whiskey and walnuts.
  • Step 3
    Roll into 1" balls.
  • Step 4
In a double boiler, melt together the chocolate chips and the shortening.
  • Step 5
Roll the bon bons in the melted chocolate, and allow to cool on a sheet of waxed paper.
  • Step 6
I'm told these can be frozen ... but they never lasted long enough for that, as I put them on goody trays for the holidays and never tried freezing them.
  • Step 7
I do not drink whiskey, so I "borrowed" a cup from a neighbor to make these, but you can also use a rum extract and reconstitute it to make 1/3 cup substitution for the whiskey.
