baking soda

chocolate, suitable for dipping

How to Make Toffee


  • 1**Have soda ready at the stove to add at once.
  • 2Melt butters slowly; add sugar, water and salt.
  • 3Cook at low heat, stirring constantly until it reaches 212 degrees.
  • 4STOP STIRRING until candy reaches 236 degrees.
  • 5Add the walnuts and stir constantly until candy reaches 290 degrees.
  • 6Remove from heat and add soda, stirring well.
  • 7Pour onto buttered cookie sheet.
  • 8Immediately cut into squares.
  • 9Will run back together, but can be cracked where cut.
  • 10Add dipping chocolate (chips/squares) on top.
  • 11They will melt and you can spread them out.
  • 12Sprinkle nuts on top (optional).
