My Mother is a Toffee lover So I found this, (unsure where yrs ago)I have made it for her for over the years. Pretty simple instructions and easy to make. She always enjoys this candy. I pkge this in a Pretty metal tin, lined with a paper doily and wax paper, & fill with the toffee.

Ingredients

  • TOFFEE BITS
  • 1/2 C - sugar
  • 1/2 C - butter (not margarine, please)
  • 1 1/2 TBS - water
  • OPTION: BUTTER PECAN TOFFEE;
  • 1/2 C - chopped finely pecans

How To Make toffee bits (candy)

  • Step 1
    line jelly roll pan with foil. Grease foil with butter. Set aside
  • Step 2
    Place all the ingredients in a large heavy pan, and bring to a HARD boil, stirring constantly with wooden spoon. Cook until a candy thermometer reads HARD CRACK.
  • Step 3
    Pour into Butter greased aluminum foil lined jelly roll pan (butter the foil) allow to set, and chop into bits and pieces.
  • Step 4
    NOTE: cooking time is approx; This will vary due to the pan you use and the heat. This needs to boil to a rolling boil that cannot be stirred down stage. TIP: (USE A CANDY THERMOMETER)
  • Step 5
    OPTION: chop fine pecans and sprinkle over the butter lined foil, before pouring the hot toffee, for "butter pecan toffee".
