Our family loves this treat. It's definitely an adult treat, but you can also make it kid friendly.

  • 2 1/2 c
crushed vanilla wafers (about 75 wafers)
  • 1 c
    ground pecans
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1/4 c
    dark rum
  • 3 Tbsp
  • 2 Tbsp
  • extra
    crushed wafers and confectioners sugar

How to Make Rum Balls

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the wafer crumbs, pecans, confectioners sugar and cocoa (yes 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons. I don't know why the extra but it makes a BIG difference.)
  2. Mix the rum, the honey, and water; stir into dry mixture. Mixture should be moist enough to form balls.
  3. Shape into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in extra confectioners sugar or extra wafer crumbs.
  4. Store in airtight container. The longer they set, the better (and STRONGER) they get.

You can also cover them in your favorite chocolate covering. If you prefer a nonalcoholic recipe, substitute the rum with orange concentrate and a splash of rum extract.
