Our family loves this treat. It's definitely an adult treat, but you can also make it kid friendly.

Ingredients For rum balls

  • 2 1/2 c
crushed vanilla wafers (about 75 wafers)
  • 1 c
    ground pecans
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1/4 c
    dark rum
  • 3 Tbsp
    honey
  • 2 Tbsp
    water
  • extra
    crushed wafers and confectioners sugar

How To Make rum balls

  • 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the wafer crumbs, pecans, confectioners sugar and cocoa (yes 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons. I don't know why the extra but it makes a BIG difference.)
  • 2
Mix the rum, the honey, and water; stir into dry mixture. Mixture should be moist enough to form balls.
  • 3
Shape into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in extra confectioners sugar or extra wafer crumbs.
  • 4
Store in airtight container. The longer they set, the better (and STRONGER) they get. You can also cover them in your favorite chocolate covering. If you prefer a nonalcoholic recipe, substitute the rum with orange concentrate and a splash of rum extract.
