Ingredients

  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    light corn syrup
  • 1 c
    sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla

How to Make Joanie's Vanilla Caramels

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook the first 5 ingredients together, stirring constantly until dissolved.
  2. Cook slow until temperature is 248* or mixture forms a firm ball when dropped in cold water.
  3. Remove from heat and add butter, salt, and vanilla- mix well
  4. Pour into greased or buttered pan, cool (about 3 hours) invert onto wooden board and cut into squares. OR Leave caramel in pan and dip apples, pretzels or anything else you would like!
