I use this recipe when I make my wonderful Gourmet Apples!!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

How To Make joanie's vanilla caramels

  • Step 1
    Cook the first 5 ingredients together, stirring constantly until dissolved.
  • Step 2
    Cook slow until temperature is 248* or mixture forms a firm ball when dropped in cold water.
  • Step 3
    Remove from heat and add butter, salt, and vanilla- mix well
  • Step 4
    Pour into greased or buttered pan, cool (about 3 hours) invert onto wooden board and cut into squares. OR Leave caramel in pan and dip apples, pretzels or anything else you would like!
