Another of my Momma's Christmas cookies. Every Christmas would find these on Momma's groaning table of cookies and candies! She would batch up a variety to give to her friends and family. Everyone waited for their bag from Ms. Bernice!

Ingredients For chewy chews

  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 c
    flour
  • dash
    salt
  • 1 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1
    egg
  • 3 tsp
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    dates, chopped
  • powdered sugar

How To Make chewy chews

  • 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 7 1/2 x 11" pan.

    Beat egg, add sugar, vanilla and water. Add flour, baking powder, salt and beat well.

    Add pecans and dates. Mix well.
  • 4
    Spread mixture in pan and bake until golden brown. Cut in squares. Cool and drench in powdered sugar. This is a rather sticky dough since no shortening is used.
