Another of my Momma's Christmas cookies. Every Christmas would find these on Momma's groaning table of cookies and candies! She would batch up a variety to give to her friends and family. Everyone waited for their bag from Ms. Bernice!

Ingredients For chewy chews

1 csugar

1 tspvanilla

1 cflour
-
dashsalt
-
1 cpecans, chopped

1egg
-
3 tspwater
-
1/2 tspbaking powder

1 cdates, chopped

powdered sugar
How To Make chewy chews

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 7 1/2 x 11" pan.

2Beat egg, add sugar, vanilla and water. Add flour, baking powder, salt and beat well.

3Add pecans and dates. Mix well.

4Spread mixture in pan and bake until golden brown. Cut in squares. Cool and drench in powdered sugar. This is a rather sticky dough since no shortening is used.
