Another of my Momma's Christmas cookies. Every Christmas would find these on Momma's groaning table of cookies and candies! She would batch up a variety to give to her friends and family. Everyone waited for their bag from Ms. Bernice!

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- dash salt
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 - egg
- 3 teaspoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- - powdered sugar
How To Make chewy chews

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 7 1/2 x 11" pan.

Step 2Beat egg, add sugar, vanilla and water. Add flour, baking powder, salt and beat well.

Step 3Add pecans and dates. Mix well.

Step 4Spread mixture in pan and bake until golden brown. Cut in squares. Cool and drench in powdered sugar. This is a rather sticky dough since no shortening is used.
