Shirley York

These taste like the real thing for those of us who don't have access to St. Joseph, MO's famous yummy candies. Rich cherry nougat surrounded by chocolate and chopped peanuts.

  • 1/2 stick
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 lb
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1 box
    vanilla frosting mix (dry)
  • 1 pkg
cherry jello (small size, dry mix)
  • 8 oz
maraschino cherries, drained, dried, chopped in blender
  • 1/2 can(s)
    sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 oz
    unsalted peanuts, crushed
  • 18 oz
chocolate chips, either milk chocolate or semi-sweet
  • 1/2 oz
    paraffin (1/8 of a bar)

How to Make Cherry Mash Candy

  1. Mix all ingredients with mixer til well-blended. Roll into desired size balls. I suggest small ones since this is a very rich candy and the chocolate coat will add some size, also. Chill thoroughly
  2. Melt chocolate chips with parafin. Stir til well-blended. Mix in peanuts.
  3. Dip chilled cherry balls into mixture, reheating chocolate if it begins to harden. Chill thoroughly til set. Enjoy!
