cherry mash candy
These taste like the real thing for those of us who don't have access to St. Joseph, MO's famous yummy candies. Rich cherry nougat surrounded by chocolate and chopped peanuts.

Ingredients
- 1/2 stick margarine
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 pound confectioners' sugar
- 1 box vanilla frosting mix (dry)
- 1 package cherry jello (small size, dry mix)
- 8 ounces maraschino cherries, drained, dried, chopped in blender
- 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
- 10 ounces unsalted peanuts, crushed
- 18 ounces chocolate chips, either milk chocolate or semi-sweet
- 1/2 ounce paraffin (1/8 of a bar)
How To Make cherry mash candy
-
Step 1Mix all ingredients with mixer til well-blended. Roll into desired size balls. I suggest small ones since this is a very rich candy and the chocolate coat will add some size, also. Chill thoroughly
-
Step 2Melt chocolate chips with parafin. Stir til well-blended. Mix in peanuts.
-
Step 3Dip chilled cherry balls into mixture, reheating chocolate if it begins to harden. Chill thoroughly til set. Enjoy!
