These bar cookies are so easy to make. Always use real butter! Substitutes do not taste as good...simply put. Spare yourself time and energy and only use real butter! I have been making these sweet delights since I was a youngster. Good year around, but a favorite during the Holidays!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks) no substitutes,real butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup toffee bits/chips

How To Make chefcheryl's toffee bars

  • Step 1
    Heat oven: 350 degrees
  • Step 2
    Cream the butter,brown sugar
  • Step 3
    Add egg and vanilla
  • Step 4
    Beat until it is well creamed and fluffy
  • Step 5
    Blend in flour/salt, gradually
  • Step 6
    mix well
  • Step 7
    stir in chocolate chips and toffee bits
  • Step 8
    press mixture into a 13 x9 inch jelly roll pan (I line pan with parchment paper)
  • Step 9
    Bake for 20 minutes (do not over bake as it will be soft [should be]. It hardens as it cools)
  • Step 10
    cut into bars and serve
