You can use any flavor combination you like. I have tried Red Velvet/Cream Cheese, Spice Cake/Cream Cheese, Lemon/Lemon, etc. I've added flavored liqueurs as well (you won't need as much frosting if you add couple teaspoons liqueur).

  • 1 box
    cake mix, any flavor
  • 1 can(s)
    frosting, any flavor
  • 1 pkg
    chocolate bark candy coating, melted

How to Make Cake Mix Truffles

Step-by-Step

  1. Bake cake as directed. Let cool and then crumble into a large bowl.
  2. Stir in can of frosting and mix well.
  3. Roll into bite-sized balls (it is sticky so I recommend keeping a large warm towel nearby to wipe your hands often).
  4. Place balls on wax paper on cookie sheets and chill 15-20 minutes. (Do one tray at a time so one is chilling while you work on the other).
  5. Dip chilled balls in chocolate or put melted chocolate in ziplock freezer bag and snip the corner slightly so you can "drizzle" the icing over.
