Buckeye Balls



My Grandmother used to make these and gave me the recipe. They're delicious.

Makes 5 dozen


  • ·
    2 c creamy peanut butter
  • ·
    1/2 c salted butter
  • ·
    1 t. vanilla
  • ·
    16 oz powdered sugar
  • ·
    6 oz chocolate chips
  • ·
    2 t. vegetable shortening

How to Make Buckeye Balls


  1. Line a baking sheet w/waxed paper.Mix peanut butter,butter,vanilla and sugar w/hands to form a smooth dough.Will be very stiff.Shape dough into balls using about 2 t. for each.Place on wax paper and chill.
    In top of a double boiler over simmering not boiling water,melt choc and shortening together.When smooth pour into small bowl or cup.Remove peanut butter balls from frig insert a wooden pick into balls and dip into melted choc so that 3/4 of ball is coated.Return to paper,choc side down and remove pick.Repeat with all balls.Chill 30 mins or longer till choc is firm not sticky.To store place in plastic containers w/wax paper between layers to keep separated.
