This is one of my favorite deserts to make. Everyone in my family can't get enough of them. Its fun and easy! These are also one of the Amish/Mennonite popular recipes!

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

FOR CAKES

1 c
shortening
2 c
sugar

CREAM TOGETHER THEN ADD:

2
eggs
2 tsp
vanilla
1/2 tsp
salt

BEAT WELL. THEN ADD:

1 c
thick sour milk or buttermilk
1 c
cold water

STIR WELL. MIX TOGETHER THEN ADD:

4 c
flour
2 tsp
baking soda
1 c
cocoa

MAY NEED TO ADD SOME MORE FLOUR IF MILK IS NOT THICK.

WHOOPIE PIE FILLING:

2
egg whites
1 Tbsp
vanilla

BEAT TOGETHER THEN ADD:

2 c
powdered sugar
1 1/2 c
crisco

How to Make Whoopie Pies

Step-by-Step

  • 1FOR CAKES:
    Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or until springs back when touched lightly.
  • 2FOR FILLING:
    Spread this on the bottom of one cookie. Place another cookie on top. (sandwish style).
