washington apple cake
This is a really delicious apple cake that I have made for years , the recipe is from a recipe card group that I have had for years called 'My great recipes " and the picture is from the card. Sometimes I serve this cake with sweetened vanilla whip cream instead of frosting.

Ingredients
- FOR THE CAKE :
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup oil
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup walnuts or pecans
- 4 cups thinly sliced cut apples (about 5 med.)
- FOR THE ICING :
- 2 packages cream cheese (3oz. ea.)
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1-3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
How To Make washington apple cake

Step 1In a large bowl beat the eggs on high speed with a hand mixer until mixed well , add the sugar and oil and beat well.

Step 2Mix the flour , cinnamon ,soda and the salt together and add to the creamed batter. Add the vanilla and walnuts or pecans.

Step 3Butter a 13x9" pan and spread the sliced apples on the bottom ; Pour the batter over top of the apples and spread out evenly to cover all the apples.

Step 4Bake @ 350° for 1 hr. or until tooth pick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Top should be a pale golden and apples should be tender. Remove from the oven and let cool ; frost with cream cheese frosting.

Step 5For the cream cheese : beat the cream cheese and the butter until smooth ; add the powdered sugar and lemon juice and beat until smooth and creamy.
