walnut, raisin, apple bars
I made these yesterday and took them to a Labor Day Cookout and everyone thought they were delicious. I got the recipe from Family Circle Magazine, but I made a few changes. It called for dried apples but I used fresh ones and it didn't have walnuts in it, which I think goes so well with apples. This is going to be a keeper

Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 stick butter or margarine, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and cored apples, diced
- 3/4 cup raisins
- 3/4 cup walnuts, diced
- 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
How To Make walnut, raisin, apple bars

Step 1Heat oven to 350 degrees. Liberally spray a 13x9 inch baking pan with non stick cooking spray.

Step 2In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt; set aside

Step 3In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, egg and margarine for two minutes until blended. Add vanilla and beat another minute

Step 4On low speed of mixer, gradually add in the flour mixture until well incorporated.

Step 5Stir in the apples, raisins and walnuts. Spread in baking pan.

Step 6Bake for 35 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. While still hot, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Do not cut into bars until completely cooled.

Step 7If you want a gooey dessert, poke holes in the cake and pour caramel topping over the top.....
