This recipe if from one of my Grand mothers recipe book. She put lots of love in this cake when she made it.

Ingredients

1 tsp
soda
1 Tbsp
vinegar
1/2 c
shortening
1 1/2 c
sugar
2
eggs
2 Tbsp
cocoa
1 oz
red food color
2 c
flour (sifted)
1 tsp
salt
1 c
buttermilk
1 tsp
vanilla

FROSTING PART 1

1 c
milk
1/2 c
flour
pinch of salt

FROSTING PART 2

1 c
sugar
1 tsp
vanilla
1/2 c
crisco

How to Make WALDORF ASTORIA CAKE

Step-by-Step

  • 1Mix vinegar and soda, set aside. Cream sugar with shortening and add eggs. Make a paste of cocoa and food color and add to creamed mixture.
  • 2Add buttermilk,salt, and flour alternately. Add vanilla then soda and vinegar.
  • 3Beat well and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes in two well oiled and floured pans. Cool and split each layer to make 4 thin layers
  • 4FROSTING PART 1:

    Cook over low flame until thickened, remove from heat and add 1 stick butter. Chill mixture.
  • 5FROSTING PART 2:

    Add to first part and beat at high speed until fluffy. Ice after putting layers together. Garnish with Coconut.
