How to Make Waldorf Astoria (24-hour cake)
- Cake: Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease and flour tube pan or bundt pan, set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
Add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Beat in vanilla and melted chocolate squares.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
Add the flour mixture into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, in three additions, scraping down the sides of bowl each time. Fold in nuts - Icing: Melt chocolate squares and butter together. Let cool. Add vanilla. Beat together egg, lemon juice and powdered sugar. Add to chocolate mixture. Stir in chopped nuts.
- Ice cake when cooled. Let stand 24 hours before cutting.
