I am in my 60th year and I have been making this cake since I was about 8. It is fail proof. I have added all kinds of ingredients. My family's favorite is a handful of long coconut and a handful of chocolate chips stirred in before baking. Serve with Ice cream instead of icing.
Sift all these ingredients together in a large bowl.

Make three depressions in the dry mix. 2 fairly large one on small

In large depression pour 1 cup water.
In the other large depression put 5 Tbsp oil.
In small depression put 1 tsp vanilla.

Mix together and place in 8 x 8 baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or till toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Do not over bake.
