This recipe comes from my grandmother's niece (Violet) and was handed down to my mother. Violet was a great cook, so I would imagine this cake is wonderful.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 cup sour milk
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- PECAN FUDGE FROSTING
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 5 tablespoons milk
- 1 - box powdered sugar plus 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
How To Make violet's fudge cake

Step 1In a mixing bowl, combine ingredients and add 1 cup boiling water last. Mix well. grease and flour 2 9 inch cake pans, bake at 350 degrees 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.

Step 2For the frosting; In a saucepan add the butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to a boil for 1 minute then add; powder sugar mixture and vanilla; stir until smooth and creamy.
