This recipe comes from my grandmother's niece (Violet) and was handed down to my mother. Violet was a great cook, so I would imagine this cake is wonderful.

Ingredients

sugar
4 Tbsp
cocoa
2 Tbsp
shortening
2 large
eggs
2 tsp
vanilla
1/2 tsp
salt
2 tsp
baking soda
1 c
sour milk
2 c
all purpose flour

PECAN FUDGE FROSTING

3/4 c
butter, softened
3 Tbsp
cocoa
5 Tbsp
milk
1
box powdered sugar plus 1 tablespoon flour
1 tsp
vanilla

How to Make Violet's Fudge Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a mixing bowl, combine ingredients and add 1 cup boiling water last. Mix well. grease and flour 2 9 inch cake pans, bake at 350 degrees 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool completely on wire racks.
  • 2For the frosting; In a saucepan add the butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to a boil for 1 minute then add; powder sugar mixture and vanilla; stir until smooth and creamy.
