I believe this to be a recipe put together by Heloise, the newspaper columnist. One of the many, many recipes I am always cutting out of papers and magazines and never get around to making - until now. The cherries and nuts sounded too good to NOT make !

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 1 cup chopped marachino cherries
  • 1-1/2 cup chopped nuts (i used pecans)
  • 2 cups sour cream

How To Make very cherry cake

  • Step 1
    Cream together the 2 sticks of butter and the sugar. Add the beaten eggs and mix thoroughly.
  • Step 2
    Mix together the extracts and the sour cream. Add to the butter mixture.
  • Step 3
    Then add in the flour, baking soda and salt. Mix to blend. Stir in the chopped maraschino cherries and the nuts.
  • Step 4
    Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 325 degrees for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
