I've been searching for the perfect buttercream frosting recipe for a very long time. And trust me, this is it (coming from a skeptic and critic).

Makes about 3 cups
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup crisco shortening
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon meringue powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (clear vanilla extract for pure white frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespoons milk (or water)
How To Make vanilla buttercream frosting

Step 1Add shortening and butter into bowl. Cream together until well-blended. (You can use a stand mixer, hand mixer, or even mix it by hand if you have to).

Step 2Add vanilla and milk.

Step 3Whisk in meringue powder into powdered sugar. Add powdered sugar into the bowl, one cup at a time; beating on a low speed.

Step 4If your frosting is too stiff, you can add more milk, one tablespoon at a time. If your frosting is too thin, just add a little more powdered sugar until you get your desired consistency.
