This is my momma's recipe and it is so good. The apples do justice to make this a wonderful fall cake. With the fresh crop of apples coming soon, this will be a cake you will definitely want to make for a Sunday Dinner. A nice big dollop of cool whip makes it even that much better.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • GINGER BREAD
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup hot tea

How To Make upside down apple gingerbread cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 9x9 inch square baking pan.
  • Step 2
    Arrange sliced apples over melted butter; sprinkle with brown sugar and set aside.
  • Step 3
    For gingerbread: combine butter, molasses, sugar & eggs in mixing bowl; mix well. Combine dry ingredients to wet ingredients alternately with hot tea. Mix well, pour over apples. Bake for 45-50 minutes. Cool 3-5 minutes. Invert onto a plate. Serve warm with cool whip.
