Ingredients

  • FOR THE SWIRL:
  • 2 - 8-ounce packages cream cheese
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 - large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 2-1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1-3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 - large eggs at room temperature
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch salt

How To Make tunnel in the middle, red velvet cake

  • Step 1
    Make the Swirl:Combine the cream cheese, sugar, eggs, sour cream, heavy cream & vanilla until smooth..set aside.
  • Step 2
    Make the cake: Preheat oven to 350 .. generously coat a 10-15 cup Bundt pan with cooking spray and dust with flour, tapping out excess. Whisk the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Whisk the vegetable oil, sour cream, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, vinegar and 1/4 cup water in a medium bowl.
  • Step 3
    Combine wet & dry ingredients just until combined. Spread 1/2 batter in pan, top with cream cheese mixture, top with remaining batter.
  • Step 4
    Bake until top is cracked & tester comes out clean......about 1 hr and 10 mins. Cool 20 mins...invert on plate and cool completely ... approx. 2 hrs.
  • Step 5
    Make Glaze: Combine cream cheese, conf. sugar, sour cream, vanilla & salt until smooth, pour/spread on cooled cake.
