I got this from a recipe book that a church put together.

I like it this way, but have thought about adding some berries or fruit to it.

1 1/2 c
all purpose flour
3 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
3/4 c
1/4 c
shortening (or butter)
egg, beaten
1/2 c
1 tsp


3/4 c
brown sugar
2 Tbsp
2 tsp
2 Tbsp
melted butter
1/2 c
chopped pecans, optional

How to Make Streusel Filled Coffee Cake


  • 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2For the streusel; Mix all ingredients together. It will be crumbly.
  • 3Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  • 4Cut in shortening (or butter)until it looks like coarse meal.
  • 5Mix together egg, milk and vanilla and stir into flour mixture. Blend well.
  • 6Pour half of batter into a well greased 8 x 8 in pan.
  • 7Sprinkle with half of streusel mixture.
  • 8Add rest of batter, then sprinkle the rest of the streusel mixture on top.
  • 9Bake 25-30 minutes.
