I got this from a recipe book that a church put together.

I like it this way, but have thought about adding some berries or fruit to it.

  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 3/4 c
  • 1/4 c
    shortening (or butter)
  • 1
    egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 tsp

  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
  • 2 tsp
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 1/2 c
    chopped pecans, optional

How to Make Streusel Filled Coffee Cake


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. For the streusel; Mix all ingredients together. It will be crumbly.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  4. Cut in shortening (or butter)until it looks like coarse meal.
  5. Mix together egg, milk and vanilla and stir into flour mixture. Blend well.
  6. Pour half of batter into a well greased 8 x 8 in pan.
  7. Sprinkle with half of streusel mixture.
  8. Add rest of batter, then sprinkle the rest of the streusel mixture on top.
  9. Bake 25-30 minutes.
