Easy as pie, because it uses a cake mix! You can easily substitute other fruits for the strawberries, including canned pie fillings. Sometimes it's easier to combine the three milks before pouring over the cake - as it seems to absorb easier. I left the recipe as written. In the past, my niece made it with a thin layer of apple pie filling and substituted a light sprinkling of cinnamon sugar for the coconut. Yum!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 3/4 cups sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cups evaporated milk (12 oz)
  • 1/2 cup half and half, or whole milk
  • FOR THE TOPPING:
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut, toasted

How To Make strawberry coconut tres leches cake

  • Step 1
    Prepare the yellow cake according to package directions in a 13-by-9-inch baking dish.
  • Step 2
    When cake is slightly cool, poke holes evenly over the surface with a toothpick or skewer. Pour each of the three milks slowly over the top. Allow each to absorb into the cake. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Step 3
    In a medium bowl, whip the cream using a mixer. Slowly add in the sugar and vanilla. Set aside.
  • Step 4
    Layer the berries on top of the cake. Cover with whipped cream and sprinkle with coconut
