This recipe originally used a cast iron frying pan ... I still do. This is a fun cake to make with kids. But definitely need adult supervision.

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cane sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk or sweet milk with a capful of cider vinegar
- 1 cup sweet milk
- 1 large egg
How To Make spider cake

Step 1Preheat iron frying pan in a 375 degree oven.

Step 2Sift together cornmeal, flour, sugar, and salt. To buttermilk (or sweet milk soured with 2 tbsp vinegar) add baking soda and stir. Beat egg. Combine sour milk, egg and dry ingredients and mix well. Place 2 tbsp butter in hot frying pan and return to oven until butter is bubbling. Pour cornmeal batter into frying pan; wait 1 or 2 minutes, until sides start to cook. Pour 1 cup sweet milk around top of spider.

Step 3Bake 25 to 35 minutes until done, should be firm but not hard.
