spiced apple cinnamon bars
A recent trip to a local orchard left me with an abundance of fresh apples. After experimenting with several different recipes, I came up with this one. :-) I hope you enjoy them! (Try mixing two or more different varieties of apples for a wide range of flavor. I like Jonathan, Jonagold, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith for baking)

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice (or slightly more)
- 1/2 cup butter (melted)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (i prefer dark)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 1/2 cups apples (peeled, chopped)
- 1/2 cup walnuts (finely chopped/optional)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
How To Make spiced apple cinnamon bars

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 x13 inch pan with non stick cooking spray. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and spices.

Step 2In a large bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth. Add eggs and extracts and blend well.

Step 3Blend in flour mixture and then stir in the apples and walnuts (optional).

Step 4Spread evenly in prepared pan. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top.

Step 5Bake for 30 minutes until center springs back when slightly touched. Cool and cut into bars.
