Ingredients: 1/2 c shortening; 1 c brown sugar ; firmly packed; 2 egg yolks , beaten; 2 c sifted cake flour; 1/2 tsp baking soda; 1 tsp baking powder; 1/4 tsp salt; 1/2 tsp ginger; 1 tsp cinnamon; 1/2 tsp allspice; 1/4 tsp cloves; 1 c sour milk

This was my Grandma's delicious cake recipe , I liked it when she would frost it with her Raisin Nut Frosting.(link is below)

1/2 c

shortening
1 c

brown sugar ; firmly packed

egg yolks , beaten
2 c

sifted cake flour
1/2 tsp

baking soda
1 tsp

baking powder
1/4 tsp

salt
1/2 tsp

ginger
1 tsp

cinnamon
1/2 tsp

allspice
1/4 tsp

cloves
1 c

sour milk

How to Make Spice Layer Cake

Step-by-Step

Cream the shortening until light , add the sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
Beat in the egg yolks.
Sift the dry ingredients together 3 times.
Alternately add small amounts of the dry mixture and the milk , beating until the batter is smooth after each addition .
Pour into two 8" pans and Bake @ 350° for 25 minutes.
