This old fashioned cake is made without eggs. It is very moist and can have a variety of frostings, or none. It is flavorful all ways.

Ingredients

1 c
raisins
1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c
water
1 tsp
cinnamon, ground
1 tsp
cloves ground
1/2 c
butter

BOIL ABOVE MIXTURE FOR 2 MINS,

1 1/2 c
flour
1 tsp
baking soda

How to Make Spice Cake

Step-by-Step

  • 1Boil the first 6 ingredients for 2 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • 2Add the flour and baking soda and stir with a fork, no need to beat the batter.
  • 3Pour into a greased 8X8 cake pan, I use a square glass dish.
    Bake for 30 mins at 350 degrees. Use a cake tester to see if it's done ( when it comes out clean).
  • 4When the cake is cooled, I usually drizzle an icing over it or dust with confectionery sugar.
