Spice cakes are a holiday delight! I make a couple of these each holiday season. They make great gifts for your neighbors or as a great night cap dessert after dinner. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup milk, whole
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter, unsalted, softened
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 3 tablespoons carmel icecream topping

How To Make spice cake

  • Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and lightly flour a 9x13in. pan. Whisk together the dry ingredients and spices in a large bowl and set aside.
  • Step 2
In a large mixing bowl on medium high setting beat together the butter, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, and beat until well combined. In a small bowl mix together remaining wet ingredients.
  • Step 3
Alternately add the wet and dry ingredients to the butter mixture starting and ending with the flour mixture. Continue to beat on medium speed until batter is smooth. Pour into the prepared pan and bake approx. 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting. I prefer to use either a cream cheese frosting or a whipped cream frosting with this recipe. Enjoy!
