My mom used to make this all the time using Bisquick baking mix for a fast, simple dessert.

2 1/3 c
bisquick or similar baking mix
2/3 c
vanilla almond milk
2 Tbsp
white sugar
3 Tbsp
melted butter/margarine


1 qt
strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
1/4 - 1/2 c
sugar (optional if you don't want the extra sugar or syrupy strawberries)


1/2 pt
heavy whipping cream
1/2 tsp
almond extract (vanilla works well too)
1 Tbsp
white sugar

How to Make Simple Strawberry Shortcake


  • 1Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

    Mix cake ingredients together and prepare like drop biscuits. Bake 12-14 minutes until golden brown.

    Remove from oven and set on wire racks to cool.
  • 2Prepare strawberries and stir sugar over them well. Cover and set in fridge until ready to serve, at least 30 minutes.
  • 3When you are close to ready to serve, make the whipped topping. Whip the cream and sugar together until it starts to form peaks. Add the almond/vanilla extract and continue whipping until desired consistency.
  • 4Split the shortcakes in half and fill with strawberries. Top with a dollop (or more) of whipped cream and you can even drizzle some of the strawberry syrup over for a little extra sweetness and nice presentation.
