shoo fly cake

This is my Aunt Janet's Recipe and I found this cake to be amazing. Better than a shoo fly pie I recently tried made in Lancaster County, PA and so moist.

Ingredients

  • CRUMB MIXTURE
  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup oil ( can use extra virgin oil or vegetable oil or canola oil)
  • SET ASIDE 1 CUP OF CRUMB MIXTURE FOR TOPPING ON CAKE
  • STEP 2
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup dark karo syrup
  • 1/2 cup brer rabbit molasses
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

How To Make shoo fly cake

  • Step 1
    Mix the crumb mixture together and set aside.
  • Step 2
    Mix boiling water, karo syrup, and rabbit molasses together in a separate bowl. Add baking soda and stir, this will foam up so make sure the bowl is large enough.
  • Step 3
    Add crumb mixture (except 1 cup) to liquid above and mix well.
  • Step 4
    Pour into greased 13x9 cake pan. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture to top of cake.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 for 40 - 45 minutes. ENJOY.
