roman apple cake
I've been making this cake for over 40 years and it is so easy and moist. It's not a "pretty" cake but it is oh so good. A great cake for gatherings, very portable, and not overly sweet and it is always a big hit. I never have any left to bring home.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 cups apples, peeled and finely chopped
- TOPPING:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 2 teaspoons flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup nuts, finely chopped
How To Make roman apple cake

Step 1Sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2Blend in sugar, butter/margarine, milk, egg, and apple. Mix on medium speed.

Step 3Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.

Step 4Cream together all the topping ingredients. Sprinkle over cake batter.

Step 5Bake at 350° for 45 minutes or until done.
