My 8th grade teacher gave me this recipe.She knew I loved to cook and so I've used this recipe for many years.I've never used another Red Velvet cake recipe because I think it could never beat this one.My family and friends always request this cake for their birthday and any other specialday.I have made 4 Red Velvet cakes in the last month.Hope you enjoy it.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups cooking oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 5/8 ounces food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ICING
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 (16) ounce box of powdered sugar
  • 1 stick butter

How To Make red velvet cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350.
  • Step 2
    Beat eggs.Add sugar,oil and vinegar.Sift cake flour and baking soda.Add to mixture.Add milk,flavoring and color.
  • Step 3
    Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Make icing.Beat confection sugar,cream cheese and 1 stick of butter.Cool cake completely before icing.
