My 8th grade teacher gave me this recipe.She knew I loved to cook and so I've used this recipe for many years.I've never used another Red Velvet cake recipe because I think it could never beat this one.My family and friends always request this cake for their birthday and any other specialday.I have made 4 Red Velvet cakes in the last month.Hope you enjoy it.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 1/2 c
    cake flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    cooking oil
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    vinegar
  • 1 5/8 oz
    food coloring
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • ICING

  • 8 oz
    cream cheese
  • 1 (16) oz
    box of powdered sugar
  • 1 stick
    butter

How to Make Red Velvet Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Beat eggs.Add sugar,oil and vinegar.Sift cake flour and baking soda.Add to mixture.Add milk,flavoring and color.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Make icing.Beat confection sugar,cream cheese and 1 stick of butter.Cool cake completely before icing.
