This is my moms recipe and is my dad and nieces favorite cake. I grew up on this cake. I use a cream cheese frosting on it and during Christmas I put green food color in the frosting to make it a festive cake. Its a very moist and flavorful cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups veggie oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vinager
  • 1 ounce bottle red food coloring
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make red velvet cake

  • Step 1
    Beat oil and sugar, add eggs one at a time beating well.
  • Step 2
    Mix cocoa, vinegar and food coloring in until blended, add to sugar mixture.
  • Step 3
    Mix flour, salt, baking soda, add alternately with buttermilk to sugar mixture.
  • Step 4
    Beat 2 minutes, add vanilla and blend well.
  • Step 5
    Grease and flour the pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes.
