This is my moms recipe and is my dad and nieces favorite cake. I grew up on this cake. I use a cream cheese frosting on it and during Christmas I put green food color in the frosting to make it a festive cake. Its a very moist and flavorful cake.

Ingredients

    veggie oil
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp
    vinager
  • 1 oz
    bottle red food coloring
  • 2 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Red Velvet Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Beat oil and sugar, add eggs one at a time beating well.
  2. Mix cocoa, vinegar and food coloring in until blended, add to sugar mixture.
  3. Mix flour, salt, baking soda, add alternately with buttermilk to sugar mixture.
  4. Beat 2 minutes, add vanilla and blend well.
  5. Grease and flour the pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes.
