raisin nut squares
Fern lived next door to us when I was a child in Eureka, MI. She made this raisin cake and shared with all of us girls. I can remember going next door for this snack cake and the walk through the snow being worth it!

Ingredients
- RAISIN MIXTURE
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 cups water
- BATTER
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon nutmeeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 - beaten egg
- 1/2 cup nuts
How To Make raisin nut squares

Step 1Boil raisins for 10 minutes. Add butter and remove from the stove. Set and cool 10 minutes.

Step 2Combine dry ingredients and add rasin mixture and mix well with spoon. Add beaten egg and mix well. Add nuts if desired.

Step 3Pour into greased 1/2 sheet pan (10" by 14"). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. You may wish to use less of the spices at first but is best with a bit of spiceness. Glaze with a powdered sugar frosting when warm.
