I have been making this cake for more than 40 years and it is always a winner wherever I take it.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp - cloves, cinnamon, allspice - each
  • 2 cups - self rising flour
  • 2 cups - sugar
  • 1 tsp - vanilla
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 cup - vegetable oil
  • 1 cup - buttermilk
  • 1 cup - pitted prunes

How To Make prune cake

  • Step 1
    Mix together sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla.
  • Step 2
    add remaining ingredients
  • Step 3
    If using plain flour, also use 1 teaspoon of soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Step 4
    Cook in 9x14 pan. At 325 for 50 t 55 minute
  • Step 5
    For the sauce use: 1 cup white sugar, 1 tsp soda, 1 tablespoon Karo white syrup and 1/2 cup buttermilk. Add one stick butter or margarine. Boil until forms stiff drop from spoon. Pour over cake while hot and still in the pan.
