I have been making this cake for more than 40 years and it is always a winner wherever I take it.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp
    cloves, cinnamon, allspice - each
  • 2 cups
    self rising flour
  • 2 cups
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 cup
    vegetable oil
  • 1 cup
    buttermilk
  • 1 cup
    pitted prunes

How to Make Prune Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix together sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla.
  2. add remaining ingredients
  3. If using plain flour, also use 1 teaspoon of soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. Cook in 9x14 pan. At 325 for 50 t 55 minute
  5. For the sauce use: 1 cup white sugar, 1 tsp soda, 1 tablespoon Karo white syrup and 1/2 cup buttermilk. Add one stick butter or margarine. Boil until forms stiff drop from spoon. Pour over cake while hot and still in the pan.
