I got this recipe from a co-worker back in the summer of 1999. She had gotten it from her mother-in-law. Wherever I go for a pitch in I make this and someone always asks for the recipe. It's the best bread recipe I've ever had sometimes I make a little extra glaze for the top. It is so easy to make the only hard part is waiting to have a slice of it!

3 c
all purpose flour
2 1/4 c
1 1/2 tsp
1 1/2 tsp
baking powder
1 1/2 c
1 1/8 c
cooking oil
1 1/2 tsp
almond extract
1 1/2 tsp
butter flavoring
1 1/2 tsp
vanilla extract
1 1/2 Tbsp
poppy seeds


3/4 c
1/4 c
orange juice
1/2 tsp
butter flavoring
1/2 tsp
almond extract
1/2 tsp
vanilla extract

How to Make Poppy Seed Bread Cake


  • 1Grease 2 loaf pans and set oven temp to 350
  • 2Stir all indgredients (except glaze ingredients) together with a spoon for 2 minutes.
  • 3Pour into greased pans bake in 350 oven for approx. 1 hour until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • 4When loaves are done baking let them cool for 10-15 minutes. While loaves are cooling stir together glaze ingredients.
  • 5Poke holes all over tops of loaves, and spoon glaze over both til gone. Let set until completely cool before removing them from the pans.
  • 6Cut each loaf down the center and then in slices side to side.
  • 7The best way to serve the bread is to wrap each pan tightly in foil and let set out overnight before serving
